The 2021 Yamaha MT09 is powered by a brand-new 890cc liquid-cooled 3-cylinder, DOHC, 4-valve-per-cylinder fuel-injected (YCC-T) engine with a downdraft intake. Almost all of the engine's basic components, from the pistons and connecting rods through the crankshaft, camshafts, and crankcase, have been reworked to be lighter. The Yamaha MT09 will enter its third generation in 2021. The designers of the 2021 Yamaha MT09 intended to better reflect the machine's considerable gains in performance by visually emphasizing the bike's sheer power. The minimalist design idea has an exterior stripped of all but the basics to emphasize lightness and agility while engaging the rider's senses.
